Four decades of adding
eyes and ears to software.
Unique Micro Design has been engineering the link between the physical world and the digital one since 1983. We're Australian owned, we design and build locally, and we measure ourselves on one thing: whether your operation runs better because we're in it.
Built on hard problems.
UMD was founded on a simple belief: that the biggest productivity gains in any business are hiding in the space between physical operations and the software meant to run them. Bar codes, RFID, sensors, edge computing — the technology has changed enormously since 1983. The mission hasn't.
Today we operate as a full-stack partner. We design and manufacture our own devices, integrate the best of the market through our agencies, and write the software that ties it together — all backed by a local engineering team that answers the phone. That combination is rare, and it's exactly what lets us stand behind an outcome rather than a component.
"We're passionate about enhancing customer experience to form long-term partnerships using emerging technologies."— The UMD philosophy
A method built around your result
Understand the operation
We start on your floor, not in a brochure. We map how work actually flows and where value leaks out.
Design the outcome
We define the measurable result first, then engineer the simplest, most reliable path to it.
Build & integrate
Devices, edge software and integration — delivered as one connected solution, not a pile of parts.
Support for life
Local engineers, real relationships and a long view. We're still here when you need us in year ten.
The things that don't change
Australian owned & engineered
Founded in Victoria in 1983 and still independently owned. Designed and manufactured locally.
Full-stack accountability
From sensor to cloud, one partner owns the result — no gaps for problems to hide in.
Can-do engineering
When the answer doesn't exist off the shelf, we build it. Hard problems are the point.
Partnership, not transactions
We aim to become part of your team, measured by your outcomes, not our invoices.
Let's solve something hard.
Bring us the problem others said was too fiddly. That's usually where we do our best work.
